CTE Benefits: What the Programs Can Do for Students

By Amber Keen

The CTE program at Lincoln High School offers many benefits to students with each course providing their own opportunities, whether it’s CAD, Manufacturing, Auto, Dental Assisting or Culinary. During the year, field trips and connection opportunities are offered, such as this year’s Manufacturing Day field trips that both the CAD and Manufacturing classes went on in October. Certification opportunities are also available to all students, for example: Culinary SERV Safe, CAD’s modeling certifications, or Dental Assisting students can earn CPR, OSHA and NELDA certifications; opening doors before they graduate.

For the seniors who want to get a head start in the field before they graduate, there is an option for a coop placement with one of the program’s partners; or students are allowed to find employment on their own spending half of the day at school and the rest at their workplace.

As for underclassmen, though they are unable to participate in co-op yet, they still get hands-on training, instructions, and guidance from their teacher to prepare them for employment within the field.
